Bio
EDKUB, created in 2018 by Swiss composer, producer and bass player Fred Sumi, builds a bridge between Cuban and electronic music. Since his first visit to Cuba in 1995, Fred Sumi has been passionate about Cuban music. EDKUB is the fruit of a friendship and collaboration with famous Cuban musicians during several recording sessions in Havana. Together, they create a unique fusion of Cuban rhythms and electronic elements, offering a captivating musical experience. The band is made up of Marbis Manzanet, with her deep, intense voice, and brothers Yassell Sotomayor and Raysel Sotomayor, with their voices imbued with African roots. Roicel Riveron (drums and timbal) former member of the famous Cuban band “Manolito y su Trabuco”, Duniesky Barreto (congas), Maykel Garcia Gonzalez (piano, keyboards) current pianist of the legendary Cuban band "Los Van Van", and Eduardo Bringuez Ayarde (trumpet), all three former members of the famous Cuban band “Pupy y Los que Son Son”. Fred Sumi performs concerts in Switzerland with local musicians: a singer, a saxophonist, a percussionist (congas) and himself on bass and laptop (electronic sequences). EDKUB's debut album, YAYA, features 10 tracks in which Cuban grooves are transcribed with warm, spherical electronic sounds. From Cuban salsa to rumba, with a jazz spirit, organic instruments and deep, colorful electronic sounds, the music accompanies the singers who guide us, with their warm voices and melodies both joyful and melancholy, into a colorful, luminous space. EDKUB's new album, COLOR DE ROSAS, will be released in spring 2025. Since the beginning of EDKUB, Jack El Calvo, famous Cuban music DJ based in Paris, has supported the project. He has chosen the first single KEY JAM as the generic for his mixes on social networks during the 2020 confinement.
